The summer holidays are over and the grey days of Autumn lay ahead, but there’s still time to grab a bargain in the sun and escape Essex.

If you can travel during school term times then you’re quids in as there’s some huge savings to be had if you holiday in September and October.

The sun doesn’t stop just because the kids have gone back to school in Essex, and there are plenty of destinations all over Europe where the temperatures remain high.

The prices will be considerably cheaper and the beaches will be quieter, so it’s a win win.

1. Tenerife, Spain

The lovely resort of Tenerife is still a favourite with tourists. Again it has lots to offer – attractive beaches, varied nightlife and lots to see and do.

The Canaries are renowned of course for their year-round sunshine so even if you book a trip there in September and October, you’ll still be greeted by temperatures of at least 23C. There’s still hours and hours of daytime sun at this time of year and the nights are nice and balmy too.

For just 70p you can take a bus to the lovely, nearby town of Nessebar with its cobbled streets, charming shops and Byzantine churches. The cost of living is still quite cheap too, for example, a pint of beer can be found for just £1.
