AREN’T HOLIDAYS EXEMPT FROM BREAKING LAWS? At the intersection of Roswell and Northridge roads in Sandy Springs July 4, a man was arrested for public intoxication and open container violations after police found him sitting on the curb with his feet in the turn lane to Northridge. He told the cops he thought public drinking was okay on July 4.

UGLY INCIDENT AT SALLY BEAUTY: At the Sally Beauty supply store at 4920 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs July 11, management said in the early evening hours, two women entered the store and began looking around. A customer then shouted one of the women was stealing hair extensions. The suspect slugged the witness and ran out the front door. The employees locked the door before the second woman could escape. She managed to unlock the door and then pulled a gun on the employees who pursued her. She got into a Honda Civic, driven by a third suspect, and left. One of the officers spotted the car and followed, then attempted to get the car to stop. The car then eluded the police, driving recklessly onto Interstate 285. The officer got close enough to the car to read the tag, but also saw a child in the car, which continued to drive recklessly. The officer terminated the pursuit. The suspect who pulled the gun is a black female, heavyset, in her mid-20s. The second suspect is a black female, skinny, in her 20s, with goldish-colored hair. The third suspect and child were not described. The witness, who was struck by the suspect, chose to leave before the cops arrived.

SUSPECT SNAGGED: July 12, officers were requested by the Coweta County Sheriff’s Department to check for a man who was wanted for aggravated battery stemming from a child abuse incident. The suspect was located, working with a paving crew near Mitchell Road between Hammond and Long Island drives in Sandy Springs. They located the suspect and took him into custody. The investigators in Coweta said they expect to upgrade the charges to murder soon.

DOG TRAPPED IN HOT CAR: July At a shopping center parking lot at 1165 Perimeter Center West in Sandy Springs July 7, a passerby called police regarding a dog in a hot car with the windows rolled up. The officers contacted the owner, who said his daughter had the car. The officer located the daughter after her father gave the officer her cellphone number. She was inside the Goodwill store. The time of dispatch to contact with her was over an hour. The temperature was 82 with humidity. She was charged with animal cruelty with a court date in August. The dog was ok.

The names and charges above are from area arrest warrants and crime reports. A warrant is merely an accusation of a crime and accused people are innocent until proven guilty. The Sandy Springs and Atlanta police departments release descriptions of suspects when arrests have not been made and residents’ input is needed.
