Broader market outperforms benchmark indices

NEW DELHI: Broader indices BSE MidCap and BSE SmallCap were outperforming benchmarks in Wednesday’s trade, with mid-cap and small-cap indices gaining nearly 1 per cent to hit the intraday highs of 15,225 and 15,558, respectively.

BSE MidCap index was trading 0.79 per cent up at 15,212, while BSE SmallCap index was 0.96 per cent up at 15,556 around 1 pm (IST).

Torrent Pharmaceuticals (up 7.16 per cent), Tata Global Beverages (up 6.86 per cent), Container Corporation of India (up 5.81 per cent) and Godrej Industries (up 4.97 per cent) were the top gainers in the BSE MidCap index.

On the other hand, Shreyas Shipping & Logistics (up 19.99 per cent), ADF Foods (up 12.63 per cent), High Ground Enterprise (up 10.40 per cent), Cigniti Technologies (up 9.98 per cent) and Aksh Optifibre (up 8.70 per cent) were topping the small-cap pack.

Among the sectoral indices, BSE FMCG was leading, followed by the auto index.

ITC, Hindustan Unilever, Sun Pharma, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Motors and Maruti were gaining in trade.

However, Asian Paints, Coal India, Bharti Airtel, Reliance Industries and Larsen & Toubro were facing the heat of selling.

Benchmark indices turned positive in the afternoon session. Nifty50 was 40 points up at 9,834, while Sensex was trading 166 points higher at 31,615 around 1 pm (IST).

In the Nifty50 pack, 30 stocks were trading in green, while 21 stocks were in red.

On BSE, 1,495 stocks were advancing whereas 912 stocks were lagging.
