Cars collide on private property – Story

URBANA, Ill. (WCIA) — A lack of signage may be to blame for a car crash Tuesday afternoon.

One driver says he couldn’t avoid the collision. Police say both drivers should have been paying more attention. It happened at a strip mall by Five Points Crossing.

Neither driver was ticketed because it happened on private property. At least one driver says his car was totaled. The SUV ended up on its side and the truck is not drivable.

Cody Carlton was inside the truck with his brother. He says he was heading east. The other driver was heading north. He says he saw the car coming, but couldn’t avoid the crash.

Once both came to a stop, he immediatley got out and started helping. Four people were involved in the accident, but no word on the extent of any injuries.

Police say there are situtaions where tickets can be issued on private property: driving under the influence, reckless driving, lack of insurance and hit-and-run. It all depends who owns the lot.
