Twenty-two people died as a result of vehicle collisions on Quebec’s highways during the construction holidays, according to Surete du Quebec.
Police officials said this year’s holiday period was one of the deadliest on record. Between July 21 and Aug. 66, there were 22 collisions, with an equal number of deaths.
Of the dead, four were motorcyclists.
According to the SQ, the most common factors in the collisions were speed, a refusal to give way and drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Several conditions were caused by the driver’s being physically ill.
Police remind drivers not to hesitate to pull over to a safe place should they feel unwell while driving.
