DS Automobiles has unveiled the UK’s first integrated contactless payment car key on the new DS 3 Connected Chic.

The technology turns your standard car key into a contactless payment system allowing you to make purchases of up to £30.

It is powered by bPay by Barclaycard and means you may never be left without cash.

DS’ contactless car key launch is timed with the 10th anniversary of Barclaycard introducing contactless payments in the UK.

The technology will be exclusive to UK customer who purchase a DS 3 Connected Chic model throughout September  2017.

Customers will also be able to track their spending, top up their balance, and take control to block or cancel the contactless payment element using the dedicated bPay app available on iPhone or Android devices.

Mark Blundell, UK Marketing Director at DS Automobiles UK said; “At DS we’re always looking at how we can credibly complement our customer’s active lifestyles, where staying connected and being able to easily interact with the world is key.

“With the combination of connectivity features integrated into DS 3 Connected Chic models, and the ability to make those must have purchases by using one integrated device – with the DS contactless payment car key, we really feel we have achieved this.”

Tami Hargreaves, Director of Innovation and Partnerships at Barclaycard Mobile Payments said; “Today’s time-pressed consumers are looking for hard-working, multifunctional technology.

“By providing our bPay chips to power the payments behind the new DS 3 Connected Chic, we’re offering drivers a fast, easy and secure way to make everyday purchases with just a touch of their car keys.

“On the 10th anniversary of Barclaycard introducing contactless payments to the UK, this partnership represents another exciting step on our journey to push the boundaries of what ‘touch and go’ technology can do.

“We will continue to pursue other ways to build ‘the connected car’, so watch this space.”

Other features of the DS Connected Chic include 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic air-conditioning and eMyWay satellite navigation and MirrorLink and Apple CarPlay smartphone connectivity.

Prices for the Chic start from £15,775 OTR for the PureTech 82 with manual transmission.
