A crash involving several vehicles Tuesday morning that happened during a police chase has blocked a busy Anderson road and injured at least one person, Anderson police said.
The wreck was reported about 9:15 a.m. on Clemson Boulevard at Home Depot Road, near East West Parkway, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol website.
Police said officers were chasing a vehicle suspected of being driven by a man with outstanding warrants, Lt. David Creamer said.
The chase started on the south end of Main Street, Creamer said.
Witnesses tell WYFF News 4 that a vehicle being chased by officers hit at least one, possibly two vehicles on Clemson Boulevard.
One of the vehicles hit crossed the center lane and collided with an oncoming vehicle, witnesses said.
After the collision, one person got out of the car that was being chased and ran off, according to witnesses. That man was quickly captured by officers and taken into custody, witnesses said. At least two other people were in the vehicle, according to witnesses.
Creamer confirmed that the man being chased was taken into custody.
At least one person was taken by ambulance to the hospital, witnesses said.
Highway Patrol troopers, Anderson Police officers, emergency medication services and fire trucks were responding to the scene.
The northbound lanes of Clemson Boulevard were blocked because of the multiple wrecks.
