‘I will be on holidays during the Davis Cup final’

Benoit Paire is world no. 41 and on paper he would have some chances to play the Davis Cup final between France and Belgium at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille from 24th to 26th November. However Paire thinks it will be impossible to do it: ‘It’s very easy,’ he said in press conference at Metz on Thursday.

‘Honestly Davis Cup is something that makes me dream, I always dreamed to play for French team. But I don’t have any contact with the captain of the French team, no news. When the big group of French team organizes a pre-nominations dinner, I don’t get even invited.

In the first round (against Japan in February) Chardy replaced me. He was the world no. 80, I was 40th. In the second round, Mannarino was the fifth player, but I think I could do well on clay. When they win I am happy, but don’t tell me about Davis Cup.

I think everyone knows that I can win any title, be as higher ranked as possible, and still being on holiday during that final.’ Paire was suspended in 2016 after displaying a bad behaviour at the Rio Olympics, which was something unacceptable for Noah.
