Lightning sparks house fire, storms cause flooding in Brevard County

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Residents in Brevard County are feeling the brunt of Wednesday’s severe weather. 

Flash flooding has hit parts of Cocoa and there are reports of cars stuck at Washington Avenue and Lucas Lane, police said.

There are also reports of ankle-deep water at State Road 520 near U.S. 1, police said.

Officers are also checking out reports of a roof collapse at Willard Street and State Road 520. The building is under renovation, and there are no reports of injuries, police said.  Traffic is moving slow in the area, police said.

The severe weather also hit residents on Merritt Island when lightning struck a home on Canal Court. Two residents were inside the home. They were not hurt, but they will have to find a temporary place to stay, officials said.
