Meijer Inc. is adding about 250 jobs across seven Southeast Michigan locations for the holiday season.
The Grand Rapids-based grocery retail chain expects to fill about 35 positions per store at job fairs Thursday in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Howell, Brighton, Hartland and White Lake, according to a news release. Positions are full and part time, ranging from cashier to cake decorator and team leader, the release said.
The impending holiday season has brought with it a round of hiring across the retail sector. Target Corp. expects to hire 100,000 seasonal workers, 2,000 of whom will be in Michigan. The national number is up 40 percent from last year.
Macy’s Inc., however, is hiring 80,000, or 4 percent fewer staff for the holidays than last year. And J.C. Penney Co. is seeking the same number of seasonal workers as last year: 40,000. It plans to hire 1,300 in Michigan.
