Police say more than 40 cars were vandalized Wednesday night into early Thursday morning in Northwest Portland.

Police first responded to the 600 block of NW MacLeay Road around 2:30 a.m. Thursday for a broken car window, which seemed to have been caused by a BB gun or pellet gun.

Officers tried to search for the suspect, but had no luck.

Several hours later, officers responded to another set of vandalized cars in the 2500 block of NW Westover Road.

By Thursday afternoon, officers had taken 43 reports of vandalism in the neighborhood. Cars had their windows shot out with pellet or BB guns, and some were vandalized with eggs.

“There are car break-ins and stuff like that, but this is pretty violent and scary,” Tatiana Terdel told KATU News. “It’s a bother, it’s going to take some work to get it fixed, but I just have no idea why people would do something like this.”

There were no reports of injuries in the incident.

“I’m glad no people and no pets [were hurt] because I know people target pets with BB guns. So property damage is frustrating, but at least no body is hurt,” said Terdel.

If you have any information, call police. And if you live in the neighborhood and have surveillance video, you’re asked to contact the non-emergency line at 503-823-3333.
