Orchard Park, N.Y. — You won’t find too many people expecting the Buffalo Bills to be legitimate contenders during the 2017 season, but they are a heavy favorite to start the season 1-0.
After opening as a six-point favorite for their Week 1 game against the New York Jets, the Bills are now listed as a nine-point favorite for their season opener. While the Bills have dealt away some key players as part of their rebuilding effort, the Jets have stripped their roster of the most talented veteran players from a year ago and are on the fast track for the No. 1 pick in the draft.
One thing that could swing this game is the availability of the starting quarterbacks. Bills starter Tyrod Taylor is still in the concussion protocol, while Jets starter Josh McCown had an injury scare in the Jets’ final preseason game. If both are on the field, the Bills have the clear edge at the position.
The Bills hosted the Jets for their home opener a year ago and came away with an ugly loss that dropped the team to 0-2. Sean McDermott is hoping he has better luck in his regular season head-coaching debut. Vegas seems to think he will.
