Nifty Auto index slips; Eicher Motors, Maruti Suzuki top losers

NEW DELHI: Shares of Eicher Motors (down 1.53 per cent), Tata Motors (down 1.52 per cent), Motherson Sumi Systems (down 0.48 per cent), Maruti Suzuki India (down 0.42 per cent), TVS Motor Company (down 0.39 per cent) and Bharat Forge (down 0.29 per cent) fell on Tuesday, dragging the Nifty Auto index 42 points down at 10,926 around 11.50 am (IST).

However, shares of Apollo Tyres (up 2.48 per cent), Hero MotoCorp (up 1.29 per cent), MRF (up 0.79 per cent), Exide Industries (up 0.77 per cent), Ashok Leyland (up 0.58 per cent), Bosch (up 0.54 per cent) and Bajaj Auto (up 0.29 per cent) were trading in green around the same time.

Notably, Hero MotoCorp may report on Tuesday a double-digit growth in the bottomline figures for the quarter ended June 30, 2017. Volumes may see 6 per cent YoY recovery to 1.84 million units led by gradual recovery post demonetisation impact and stocking of inventory to meet festive demand starting next month.

The broader market turned choppy after creating history by touching an all-time high.

FMCG, IT, pharma and auto stocks slipped, causing a mild cooling off to the bourses.

Benchmark Nifty50 index was 15 points down at 9,951, while the 30-share Sensex was 40 points down at 32,206 around 11.50 am (IST).

In the Nifty50 pack, 19 stocks were trading in green, while 31 stocks were in red.

On BSE, 1,020 stocks were advancing whereas 1,365 stocks were lagging.
