Police hunt driver who crashed his car during pursuit and then ran off

A driver is at large following a police chase which ended in a three-car crash in north Manchester.

The car was being pursued on Monday afternoon, when it was involved in a crash with two other vehicles in Collyhurst .

A person in one of the other cars suffered minor injuries.

A passenger in the car involved in the pursuit, a 23-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking without the owner’s consent.

The driver of the vehicle is understood to have fled on foot and has not yet been found.

A police spokeswoman said: “Shortly after 2.40pm a car being pursued by police was involved in a collision with two other cars on Collyhurst Street in Collyhurst.

“One person suffered minor injuries.

“The driver of the car which was being pursued fled the scene.

“A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking without the owner’s consent at the scene.

“The road was closed for a short while and has since been re-opened.”

The police helicopter was seen hovering in the area to assist with the search.
