LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) — The Lynchburg Police Department has arrested a man they say stole a vehicle from a local auto dealer and then crashed it in Virginia Beach.

Police said they responded to a burglary report at the Auto Connection on Lakeside Drive on Tuesday around 9 a.m.

Employees told police that they noticed the front glass door was broken and keys were missing for a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu.

Lynchburg Police said around 2:40 p.m. that same day, officers were notified by the Virginia Beach Police Department that the stolen vehicle was involved in a hit and run accident in Virginia Beach.

They said the suspect fled the vehicle, stole a second vehicle and was then involved in a second hit and run before he was arrested.

Through their investigation, Virginia Beach Police officers were able to identify the suspect as Christopher Lance Houston, 38, of Lynchburg as the person involved in both accidents.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and released prior to being charged with grand larceny of a vehicle and two counts of hit and run; police said additional charges are pending further investigation.

Anyone with information regarding these incidents is asked to contact Officer F. Muffaletto at (434)455-6060 ext. 632 or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-798-5900.
