Property built in 1500s to be auctioned online

The Grade II-listed, former cafe in Newark

A Grade II-listed former restaurant and café in Newark is being auctioned online this week.

The auction for the building on Castlegate, which has planning permission for the first floor to be converted into an apartment, closes tomorrow (Thursday).

It is being run by online auctioneers John Pye Property at the John Pye website

The auction also includes a traditional brick-built period property on Market Square, Ollerton, offering six flats and two retail units, which are let out to two businesses.

Both properties are marketed as buy-to-let opportunities.

Mr Richard Reed, head of property at John Pye Property said: “Nottinghamshire’s property market is reporting increasing demand compared with this time last year.

“The Newark and Southwell area is highly desirable for investors as it offers a great rural location within easy commuting distance of big cities, such as Nottingham and Leicester, and also has strong transport links with London.”

The former restaurant and café, last used as a violin shop, dates to the 1500s and has many original period features.
