Sensex: Market Now: Over 50 stocks hit fresh 52-week highs today

NEW DELHI: Over 50 stocks, including Ambuja Cements, Bata India, Phillips Carbon, Bombay Dyeing, Container Corporation of India, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation, JSW Steel, Readymade Steel, STEL Holdings, Chennai Petro and Saregama India hit their fresh 52-week highs in Thursday’s trade on NSE, despite markets’ cautious stance.

However, KSS, Prakash Steel, TV Vision, ANG Industries, S H Kelkar & Company, Usher Agro, Adhunik Metalik, Sezal Glass, Religare and Visagar Polytex were among the 19 stocks that touched their fresh 52-week lows.

Stock markets turned cautious ahead of August derivatives expiry and release of key macroeconomic data later in the day.

Mixed Asian cues too dealt a blow to the markets’ sentiment.

IT and Pharma companies were leading among losers, with Bharti Infratel, Dr Reddy’s, Sun Pharma and Bharti Airtel at the bottom in the Nifty index.

On the contrary, Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, Wipro, Reliance Industries and Gail gained over 1 per cent in the Nifty index.

Nifty50 index was trading 14 points lower at 9,870, while the 30-share Sensex was 57 points down at 31,589 around 10.55 am (IST).

In the Nifty50 pack, 17 stocks were trading in green, while 33 stocks were in red.
