SPRINGFIELDĀ – One person was injured and two cars were damaged in a shooting and related car crash Sunday afternoon in Forest Park.

A victim was taken to the hospital at about 2 p.m. after being shot at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Hollywood Street, Police Lt. Reggie Miller said.

Police detectives are also investigating a car crash that happened about the same time a block away at the intersection of Dickinson Street and Trafton Road, he said.

The shooting and the car crash are connected but Miller did not have details on the circumstances of the two.

No one was hurt in the crash. The condition of the shooting victim was not immediately available, Miller said.

Police blocked off the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Hollywood Street with crime tape to investigate the crime. There were at least five markers showing where bullet casings and other evidence was found.

Officers also closed Dickinson Street for at least 30 minutes and detoured drivers down Trafton Road while they investigated and cleared the accident. One car was towed from Dickinson Street while a second ended up on the sidewalk and tree belt on Trafton Road.

This is a breaking story. Masslive will update as soon as information is available.
