Summer holidays are here – here are some of the part-time jobs to help you earn extra cash

A summer with no work might sound like a dream but it fast becomes a boring slog when you’ve got no money to spend.

If you’re out of school, college or university at the moment, or are just between jobs, then some of these temporary roles could be perfect to keep you going through the season. And they might get your parents off your back.

Here are five part time jobs we have found in Newcastle and Sunderland which are ideal for the summer.

Temporary sales associate – H Samuel, Newcastle,

The famous jewellery shop needs short-term staff in Newcastle.

Experience is not necessarily required, but you will need an interest in watches and jewellery. As a member of a sales team, you must be able to strike up conversations with strangers and demonstrate a positive “can do” attitude.

Part time team member – Greggs, Hylton Castle, Sunderland

This is just a four hour a week temporary job, so if you’re in school and on holiday, it could be a perfect first job to earn a few quid.

You need to be able to:

Seasonal Colleague – Asda Pharmacy, Gosforth, Newcastle.

Asda has a temporary position working at its pharmacy in the Gosforth superstore.

They want friendly, helpful people who smile and say hello to customers. Staff should also look for ways to increase sales and make shoppers aware of promotions.

This part time roll is 26 hours a week on a seasonal contract.

Seasonal sales assistant – WH Smith Travel, Newcastle Airport

Ideal for returning students, as you must be over 18 for this job and the contract runs until September.

The 30 hours a week are split into four shifts, but you’ll need to be flexible.

Overtime hours will be available too.

There is one catch – you must have access to transport as shifts can start from 2am – well before Metros make it to the airport.

Bar Staff – The Job Bullman (Wetherspoons), Gosforth, Newcastle

‘Spoons are looking for bar staff in Gosforth, in roles which are advertised as ‘temporary’.

You must be over 18 and willing to work a variety of shifts, including mornings and late nights.
