Downpours from storms that moved through the Kansas City area late Sunday morning flooded some streets and stranded vehicles in high water.
The Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department responded to multiple vehicles caught in high water, including at Mill Street and Central Avenue, South 47th and Ottawa streets and 13th Street and Washington Boulevard, according to a message Fire Chief John Paul Jones posted on Twitter.
Merriam police reported that there was a lot of water across the city’s streets.
“Be safe, turn around and don’t drown,” police said via Twitter.
The National Weather Service in Pleasant Hill urged drivers to be careful Sunday afternoon because of standing water on area roadways.
