Uttar Pradesh electricity bills collection improved 28% in Q1 of FY17

NEW DELHI: The Yogi Adityanath government’s crackdown on electricity theft in Uttar Pradesh has led to 28.5% increase in power bills collection in the first quarter of current financial year, an official statement said.

“Highlighting impact of Uday and robust economic growth, UP sees 15.5% growth in electricity procurement in first quarter of 2017-18 as compared to 2016-17. In comparison, the collections grew by 28.5% reflecting a severe crackdown on theft,” the statement issued by the Union power ministry said.

“With better supply and lower losses, UP, in particular, and India, in general, are moving towards 24X7 Power For All,”it said.

In the first quarter of the fiscal, the collections stood at Rs 7822 crore against Rs 6086 crore in the corresponding period previous year. The energy procurement stood at 31,400 million uints in the Apr-June quarter agaist 27,200 million units in the same period last financial year, the statement said
