Vanier students get extra day of summer holidays

Students heading back to class at G.P. Vanier Secondary School next week will have an extra day of summer holidays.

Because of the extensive construction completed at the school over the summer, a delay of one day is required to ensure the school is ready for students.

In 2015, the provincial government approved funding for a partial replacement and seismic upgrade to the school.

The partial replacement of the school will be 31,000 square feet (2,880 m2) in size, and will have a functional design with six new science classrooms and eight regular classrooms for humanities studies. The project will also improve the 47-year-old school’s ventilation and heating systems.

The first day of school for students will be Wednesday, Sept. 6. This will be a regular day of instruction, from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

The first day of school for all other SD71 schools is Tuesday, Sept. 5.
