Kathmandu, May 22: The government has formed an inquiry committee to study about the dispute, complaint and systemic problems related to music royalty, copyright and intellectual property.
The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation formed a five-member committee headed by Laxman Bidari, ‘Shesh’ after the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers drew attention to the issue.
Secretariat of Minister Khadgaraj Paudel informed that the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation constituted the committee through a ministerial decision on Thursday.
The committee comprises the Director-General of the Department of Information and Broadcasting under the Ministry of Information and Communications, Registrar at the Nepal Copyright Office and Chief of the Archaeology and Heritage Section under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation.
Nirmala Neupane, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, serves as the Member Secretary of the committee. The ministry has mandated the committee to submit a report with necessary recommendations within 10 days from the date of its formation.
Among the key concerns to be studied are intellectual property theft, copyright infringement, unauthorized use, and digital as well as physical media related issues involving creators, producers, artists and other rights holders in the field of music.(RSS)
