Udhagamandalam: Randomization of electronic voting machines (EVMs) for the Nilgiris Lok Sabha constituency was conducted at the additional collectorate in Ooty on Thursday. Nilgiris collector M. Aruna, who is also the district election officer, launched the drive in the presence of representatives of various political parties and election officials.Following the first level of checking and the first phase of randomization at a warehouse located at the additional collectorate, 835 EVMs and 894 VVPATs were sent to Ooty, Gudalur and Coonoor assembly constituencies, Aruna said.Officials said a total of 239 polling booths in the Ooty assembly constituency, 224 in the Gudalur constituency, and 226 in the Coonoor constituency have been identified for the Lok Sabha elections.While 286 EVMs and 310 VVPATs were sent to Breeks Memorial High School in Ooty, 268 EVMs and 291 VVPATs were sent to St Thomas High School in Gudalur for the respective constituencies.As for the Coonoor constituency, 271 EVMs and 293 VVPATs were sent to Providence College for Women in Vandosolai near Coonoor, stated a release from the collector’s office.“The EVMs and VVPATs will be kept safe at the respective warehouses and will be sent to the polling booths accordingly,” Aruna said.
