Electric vehicles (EVs) are known for various characteristics and strengths, with efficiency being one of the main outliers. Not every EV offers an optimized fuel economy, but a good majority of them do. The EPA, which grades every car platform: electric vehicles, hybrids (HEVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and non-electric gas-powered (ICE), keeps track of fuel economies, ranges, driving costs, emissions, and more. It’s important to know that while these ten models offer the best MPGe, it doesn’t mean another model released, updated, or reviewed late can’t knock it down. The automotive world is always evolving and staying in motion, but for the start of 2025, here are the top 10 EVs with the best MPGe ratings.

In order to give you the most up-to-date and accurate information possible, the data used to compile this article was sourced from various manufacturer websites and other authoritative sources: fueleconomy.gov. The models have been ranked from least efficient to most efficient.

Note: These are the current best-rated EVs reviewed by the EPA in terms of fuel economy and can change throughout the year with new and updated models.

It’s well known in the car world that compact cars thrive in terms of fuel efficiency, and one of the most notorious models in this category is the Fiat 500. Fiat has provided an electric powertrain on the 500 platform for quite a while, and it has made a comeback in recent years. The 2025 Fiat 500e utilizes a single electric motor that generates 117 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Fiat plans to drop the 2025 500e later this year, so no prices are available just yet.

When it comes to the fuel economy of the 2025 Fiat 500e, it offers 127 MPGe in the city, 104 MPGe on the highway, and a combined fuel economy of 116 MPGe. Compact EVs can’t really house large batteries, so past models such as the i3 and 500e typically offer short ranges. This isn’t bad because the 2025 500e’s 149-mile driving range is great for short commutes or people living in the city.
