GREEN BAY – Not to be confused with “Green and Gold,” the nationally released dairy farming/Packers movie starring Craig T. Nelson that was filmed in Door County, this is a different kind of homegrown Green & Gold Double Feature.
On May 18, audiences will be able to see two recently released Wisconsin documentaries on the same day. “Green Blah! The History of Green Bay Punk Rock … The First Ten Years or So” and “GOLD” will screen at the Barrel Haus at Badger State Brewing for a Sunday fundraising event.
“Green Blah!” is the culmination of a 12-year journey by Green Bay natives Chris Pretti and James Baker to chronicle how the irrepressible DIY spirit of teens in Green Bay and the surrounding area gave birth to the city’s early punk scene in the late ’70s and early ’80s. The film premiered during a three-day event with sold-out screenings and punk band reunions in November at The Tarlton Theatre.

“GOLD,” the sophomore documentary by Green Bay filmmaker Paige McKenna Grube, tells the story of a strip club owner and four of the exotic dancers at the Gold Nugget strip club in Spread Eagle, Wisconsin, in what is ultimately a film about female empowerment. It premiered in October at Backstage at the Meyer and has hosted numerous sold-out screenings in the area since.
Doors for the Green & Gold Double Feature open at noon May 18. “Green Blah!” will be shown at 1 p.m., followed by bands Holly & The Nice Lions and Smart Shoppers during intermission. “GOLD” will screen at 5:10 p.m.

All proceeds will be donated to Wise Women Gathering Place, a Green Bay nonprofit that provides Native American culturally specific services to those harmed by domestic and teen dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, sex trafficking and historical trauma.
