India tightens import rules on gold-infused metals to curb smuggling
India has restricted the import of liquid gold and alloys containing over 1% gold, including those with palladium, rhodium, and iridium. The move, aimed at curbing illegal gold imports, also applies to certain gold compounds and colloids.

The decision comes as India’s gold imports dropped by 12.6% year-on-year in May 2025, according to official data. Authorities hope the new measures will plug loopholes used to smuggle gold under the guise of other metal imports.
