On the island of Maui, the Maui Gold Pineapple Company is offering a spring workshop series in collaboration with Maui Farm Events and Lei Maui. The two workshops, which focus on Hawaiian lei making techniques, will be held among lush fields and panoramic views.
On April 18, visitors can sign up for a three-hour ti leaf lei workshop. “Led by experienced teaching artist, Caitlyn Madrid, you’ll delve into the traditional Hawaiian art of lei making, focusing on the hili method of braiding or weaving ti leaves,” a news release said. The $125 price also includes complimentary pineapple water and mango-pineapple iced tea.
The next three-hour workshop, also priced at $125, takes place on May 9. It’s a small-group workshop focusing on the lei making materials of palapalai fern and roses. Participants will learn the proper way to prepare the flowers for stringing and how to create a pleasing pattern.
The events last from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and private transportation is available.
