Three-time Olympic medalist Dominique Dawes is being honored Tuesday with a sculpture in her hometown of Silver Spring, Maryland, recognizing her multiple appearances on the international stage. Watch the ceremony below:

Days before 25 DMV residents take part in the 2024 Paris Olympic games, dozens gathered at the Silver Spring Recreation and Aquatic Center to celebrate Dawes’ achievements in the Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, and Sydney 2000 games.

Dawes was in attendance, and Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and Councilmember Gabe Albornoz spoke at the event.

Dawes was a member of the U.S. gymnastics team during those years, helping her team secure a gold medal in the 1996 games, according to a statement from Montgomery County officials.
