If you want to get your hands on some of the most powerful weapons in Final Fantasy 16, you’re going to need to spend a lot of time at the forge. The best weapons require scarce crafting materials, hidden away in the darkest corners of Valisthea. However, few materials are as hard to come by as Fool’s Gold.
Final Fantasy 16: How To Start The Rising Tide DLC
Wondering how far you’ll need to get in FFXVI before starting The Rising Tide? Pretty far, as it happens.
Fool’s Gold, introduced in the Rising Tide DLC, is a material used for crafting. Only two pieces of Fool’s Gold exist and can only be found in Mysidia. While this gold won’t fetch you a hefty sum of Gil, it will help you create a mighty weapon.
How To Get Fool’s Gold
There are two pieces of Fool’s Gold that can be obtained in Mysidia. The first piece of Fool’s Gold is obtained from defeating the Master Tonberry. This terrifying enemy is encountered during the Rising Tide main quest, on your way to The Aire of Hours.
The second piece of Fool’s Gold is found in northern Mysidia, near Father’s Fell. Head north of Mysidia, head east, and take the southern path near Father’s Fell. Along the northern wall, close to where the paths converge again, you’ll find a chest containing Fool’s Gold.
How To Use Fool’s Gold
Fool’s Gold is used to craft the Tonberry Knife. Unlike most materials, Fool’s Gold is not used in any other crafting recipe. The recipe for the Tonberry Knife is unlocked after gaining access to the forge at the Haven in Mysidia.
To gain access to the forge at the Haven, you’ll need to complete the It’s the Thought that Counts side quest. This quest is quick and easy to complete, as it tasks you with gathering flowers around the Haven.
While the Tonberry Knife doesn’t have the highest Attack stat, the weapon’s Stagger stat is extremely high. At 700 Stagger, this weapon’s Stagger is equivalent to the Ultima Weapon. The Tonberry Knife serves as a great alternative, until you obtain the Ultima and Omega weapons.
