The Wilo Group, a multinational technology company and supplier of pumps and pump systems, has joined the world’s leading natural refrigerant HVAC&R stakeholders as a silver partner of the NaturalRefrigerants.com marketplace.

The company, headquartered in Dortmund, Germany, works across various market segments, including residential and commercial building services, water management and industry, supplying its pump technologies to various manufacturers of HVAC systems.

Founded in 1872, the company originally produced distillation equipment for the drinks industry. In the 1920s, Wilo turned its attention to the circulation of hot water in heating systems and delivered the world’s first glandless heating pump in 1953. In the late 1980s, it produced the world’s first electronically controlled heating circulator and has continued to pioneer various pump technologies since then.

Its products and systems are now used in a range of residential, commercial, public and industrial buildings such as offices, hospitals and hotels. They are also used in several district heating networks, including at its own production site in Hof, Germany, and in a Polish village where waste heat from a local biogas plant provides heating for household and industrial customers.

Pumps for HVAC

Wilo offers a variety of pumps for space heating and cooling applications, and each year, the company produces some 5 million pumps for more than 1,000 HVAC OEMs. According to Wilo, one in every two heating systems worldwide is now equipped with one of its pumps.

In addition to manufacturing pumps specifically designed for the HVAC sector, Wilo also offers basic and advanced application and product training, as well as HVAC market and policy analysis to support its customers.

“Taking into account current and future regulatory requirements, we anticipate new developments and evolutions in requirements on the global market,” the company says on its website. “We think ahead and set trends.”

Wilo currently employs around 9,000 people globally and operates 90 production and distribution companies, with a presence on every continent.
