Amica is a leading car insurance provider with flexible policies, a solid reputation for customer service and a wide selection of discounts.
We like that Amica’s Platinum Choice® plan includes useful perks like new car replacement coverage, no-deductible glass coverage and increased rental-car benefits with no daily limit.
Amica’s rates are higher than average, but customers in some states may be eligible for dividends that could lower their annual premiums.

How does Amica compare to other car insurance companies?
Here’s how Amica stacks up against two leaders in the auto insurance space.
Amica vs. Safeco
Amica and Safeco offer similar coverage options, including rental reimbursement and 24/7 roadside assistance, but only Amica has gap insurance.
A price comparison is a wash: While Amica’s rates are higher than average, Safeco doesn’t make average rate information available online. If you enjoy the convenience of enrolling online, however, Amica is the clear choice — Safeco only sells policies through its network of independent agents.

Pros
- Safe-driving discount worth up to 30% off
- Has accident forgiveness and diminishing deductible
- Available nationwide
Cons
- Above-average volume of complaints
- Below-average customer satisfaction rating from JD Power
- Quotes not available online
Both Amica and Safeco have telematics programs that track driving habits but, while Amica says its StreetSmart app can save users up to 20%, Safeco claims its RightTrack program can knock as much as 30% off your premiums.
Amica is top-rated for customer satisfaction, while J.D. Power rated Safeco well below the industry average in its 2024 auto insurance study. It did score above average for claims satisfaction, but nowhere near as well as Amica.
And, according to the NAIC, Safeco receives more complaints than expected based on its size.
Amica vs. Farmers Insurance
Rates for both Amica and Farmers are higher than many competitors, but both offer widespread availability: Amica issues car insurance in 48 states, compared to Farmers’ 42.
