Wells Fargo has been doing a lot of work on its credit card lineup lately, and I have to say, I’m really liking the results. And the latest addition is perhaps the best one yet.

The Wells Fargo Attune℠ Card is a brand new cash rewards card unlike any other I’ve seen. It not only offers very competitive rates, but it does so across an immense array of purchase categories and merchants.

Featured offer: save money while you pay off debt with one of these top-rated balance transfer credit cards

I honestly think this card is going to have a big impact on the way we think about rewards cards. To help you get up to speed, here’s everything you need to know.

This is an actual lifestyle rewards card

Us credit card folks throw around the phrase “lifestyle card” a lot. Like, way too much. But this is one of the few cards out there that honestly deserves that title. All those hobbies and interests that make up our lives? This card probably has a rewards category for them.

Oh, and they all earn 4% cash rewards.

There are three overarching rewards categories that encompass another 49 merchant categories. Yes, you read that right: 49 different merchant categories.

It would be ridiculous to list them all here, so let me give you a few fun highlights:

  1. Self-Care: This category covers merchants from beauty and barber shops to gym memberships to the spa.
  2. Sports, Recreation, and Entertainment: This category covers merchants from nearly any kind of leisure activity, including craft stores, hobby shops, garden supply stores, amusement parks, dance studios, campgrounds, sporting goods stores, pet supplies, bicycle shops, concerts, movies, and so many more.
  3. Planet-Friendly Purchases: This category is merchants who help you reduce your carbon footprint, from antique shops and thrift stores to greener transportation options like buses, trains, subways, and EV charging.

And yes, all of these many, many categories — and the many, many categories I didn’t list here — earn the 4% cash rewards rate.

The 4% cash rewards are unlimited

I know what you must have been thinking. “Well, you can’t possibly have such a high cash rewards rate on so many categories without some major spending caps, right?”

One of the most amazing things about this card is that the 4% cash rewards are unlimited. There is no monthly, quarterly, or annual cap on how many of your purchases qualify for that 4% rate.

There is no annual fee

Sure, there’s no cap, but there must be a huge fee, right? Wrong again!

The next most amazing thing about the Wells Fargo Attune℠ Card is that it has no annual fee. So you earn unlimited 4% cash rewards for literally dozens of merchant categories and you don’t have to fork over an annual fee. (It’s bananas!)

The welcome bonus is a bit quirky

Alright, so you knew a card with so much had to have some kind of a catch, right? As it turns out, it’s the welcome bonus in this case. The Wells Fargo Attune℠ Card’s initial welcome bonus isn’t as competitive as you may want it to be, even with other no annual fee cards. Beyond that, it’s also a little bit quirky — kind of like the card itself.

As of writing, the welcome bonus was: Earn a $100 cash rewards bonus when you spend $500 in purchases in the first 3 months.
Plus, Wells Fargo will donate $50 to Capital Link (a national, nonprofit organization) when you qualify for the $100 cash rewards bonus. Capital Link provides solar power infrastructure to community health centers to help them keep operating during blackouts.

So, while it’s not the highest bonus you can find, it’s definitely still an interesting one.

You do get a modest intro APR offer with this card: 0% intro APR for 12 months from account opening. The go-to 20.24%, 25.24%, or 29.99% (Variable) APR applies after the intro period. This isn’t necessarily a card that you’d get specifically for the intro APR offer, but it’s definitely a nice perk to a card that already has a lot going for it.

…So is the cellphone protection

Wells Fargo cards typically offer cellphone protection, and this one is no different. You get up to $600 per claim (minus a $25 deductible), up to two claims per 12 months, to cover damage and theft, provided you pay your cellphone bill with your eligible card.

You’ll need good credit to qualify

Like other Wells Fargo rewards cards, you’ll generally need good credit (a score of 670 or higher) to qualify for the Wells Fargo Attune℠ Card. But the bank will look at your credit history, income, and history with Wells Fargo before making a decision.

Wells Fargo only allows one card per six months

If you’ve recently gotten another Wells Fargo credit card, you may have to wait to apply for the Wells Fargo Attune℠ Card. That’s because Wells Fargo has a rule that you can only open one Wells Fargo credit card per six-month period.

You should be able to change cards to this one if you have another Wells Fargo card you’d like to swap for it, but there aren’t a lot of reports out to confirm this as of now.

All in all, this new card is fascinating. I think it’s going to be a good fit for a lot of people, especially folks who enjoy hobbies that don’t normally get their own bonus categories. At the very least, it’s definitely worth taking a look at the details to see if it’s a good fit for your own card strategy.
