Mahindra & Mahindra is confident that around 50% of the vehicles in India will be battery-powered in the future, including electric vehicles and hybrids. At the Autocar Professional Future Powertrain Conclave, Mahindra & Mahindra’s President for Automotive Business, R Velusamy, said there will be a rise in demand for EVs and hybrids. He said currently two powertrains dominate the automotive industry — petrol and diesel, while in recent times there’s been an increased demand for CNG, which has around 17% of the market share. He is optimistic that electric vehicles can boost their market share from approximately 3% to 15%. He added that incorporating three electrified options—hybrids, plug-in hybrids with range extenders, and EVs could drive this market share close to 50%.
