DACIA, one of the UK’s most beloved makers of affordable cars, is set to release a new budget EV across Europe with a £15,000 price tag.
Announced during a results conference by Renault Group – the owners of Dacia – the all-electric city car for Europe will be closely related to the Renault Twingo and designed as a successor to the Dacia Spring.
Unlike the Spring, which is produced in China, this as-yet-unnamed little motor will be built in Europe.
As a result, it will avoid pricey import tariffs – with the savings seemingly passed on to the consumer.
Speaking at the conference, Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo said: “We’re preparing to go one step further in terms of EV affordability.”
He also stated that the car will be ready for release in just 16 months, adding: “I defy any competitor in the world to do that.”
Better yet, the new car is to be significantly better than the Spring in terms of performance, technology, and capability.
That’s thanks to the use of the Renault Twingo’s Ampr Small platform – also used as the basic framework for two larger models, the Renault 4 and Renault 5.
Speaking about the car’s bold 16-month development process – the fastest Renault Group will have ever produced a model – de Meo said: “We’ve moved to China speed.”
The Romanian brand’s range of motors is certainly broadening – with the Bigster SUV set to be launched very soon.
The much-loved Sandero, recently revealed as the best-selling car across Europe, will also be updated for a third-generation model in 2027, which will see it offered as an EV for the first time.
Dacia has enjoyed an incredible rise in popularity in recent years, with 2024 being a specifically good year for the brand as it became Europe’s biggest seller to retail customers overall.
In total, they sold 676,340 cars last year, which was an increase of nearly 3% from 2023.
They also account for close to 4% of all passenger car sales across Europe.
We also recently revealed how the brand is giving adventure-seeking drivers a budget-friendly yet luxurious solution to camping – thanks to a snazzy range of accessories.
Some of their models can be transformed into makeshift campers – thanks to their aptly named ‘InNature’ Sleep Pack.
On the Dacia Jogger, for example, the Sleep Pack works by turning the rear seats and boot into a bedroom in just a matter of minutes.
Coming in at 190×130 cm, the double bed is designed to fold out quickly, and comes with a wooden drawer with 220 litres of storage space.
Dacia even offers opaque blinds for each window, perfect for privacy while also allowing the interior to be plunged into darkness.
