Cops said the smash took place when a Skoda Karoq and a Peugeot slammed into each other, leaving a young child with “life threatening-injuries.”

After the clash, the Peugot spun out uncontrollably onto the westbound carriageway, flying across the barriers and ploughing into a Volvo.

Those inside the white Peugot were a woman in her early 20s, who was driving, and the two youngsters.

The family were rushed to the hospital and reported with “serious” injuries and the toddler’s injuries were deemed as life-threatening.

The driver of the Volvo, a man in his 70s, suffered minor injuries.

Cops have launched an urgent appeal in an attempt for dashcam footage of the incident.

After the incident, the road was closed in both directions but has since been reopened.
