The fires broke out at about 2.28pm in what is believed to be the car park of the Compass School in Lingwood.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that “a number of cars and a hedge” are currently on fire in School Road, where locals witnessed black smoke filling the air.

Five fire crews, police and a rapid response vehicle were all spotted rushing to the scene.

“Several sets of sirens were in attendance.”
