Karnal: Candidates and voters at a polling booth in Ward II of Karnal municipal corporation (MC) complained of an EVM malfunctioning. The candidates accused that the EVM wasn’t functioning properly since morning, and no step was taken even after complaints were made.
The polling staff at the booth confirmed there were some issues, but said they were resolved immediately.
Vikas Panchal, the local Congress candidate’s representative, said a button of the EVM had not been functioning since morning. “Neither did any technician arrive to resolve the issue nor was polling halted in the meantime,” he said.
He accused BJP of doing this deliberately. A polling staff at the polling booth said they faced an issue with the machine, but they resolved it in not more than 10 minutes.
A voter, Lakshman Singh, said another man’s photo was printed in front of his name in the voter list. That other man belongs to BJP, whose name is also Lakshman Singh. He mentioned making a complaint with the polling staff.
Congress mayor candidate Manoj Wadhwa cast his vote along with his family at the respective booth. He accused BJP of not letting party workers set up their booths. “They either removed the tents of our booths or hung their flexes there. The same happened in Ward II, and the EVM was disrupted in Ward VIII,” he said. “I received multiple calls since the morning about the same issues. The system supported BJP govt, and together they are scaring the public of Karnal,” he said.
