Tech mogul Elon Musk on Saturday called for eliminating the use of electronic voting machines flagging the risk of them being hacked by humans or artificial intelligence.

Musk posted his remark in response to reports of EVM-related irregularities in Puerto Rico’s primary elections.

Following this, some opposition leaders in India used Musk’s remark to target the BJP-led government.

This drew a comment from India’s former IT minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar who called Musk’s remark “a huge sweeping generalization statement”.

He said that Indian EVMs are custom designed and secure. To this, Musk said, “Anything can be hacked”.
