Kolhapur: Praniti Shinde, Congress MLA and the party’s Lok Sabha candidate from Solapur, said
BJP is left only with the option of tampering with the electronic voting machines (EVMs) to win the election. Speaking in Solapur on Monday, Praniti, who is the daughter of former Maharashtra CM and Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde, said that after Congress and the INDIA bloc raised their voices, the Election Commission of India revealed the voter turnout for each constituency polled so far and also taken cognisance of the issues regarding the 17C form (the form provided to polling agents of political parties upon completion of polling at their respective booth). Form 17 C has details of votes polled in the EVMs with the unique number of the EVMs. “They have only one option left — doing something to the EVMs. BJP’s mentality is to get power by any means possible. We should not forget this. Over the past 20 days, common people have been calling me and telling me that they have voted for me, but I should be alert about EVMs. We are alert, not just here, but across the country. People should also be alert. BJP has only one option left,” said Praniti. A Congress delegation from Solapur has given a petition to district election officer and collector Kumar Ashirwad, stating that they fear that the EVMs may be hacked into using mobile tower communication and, therefore, the administration should fix mobile jammers at the Ramwadi warehouse where the EVMs are kept ahead of counting on June 4. The Congress MLA claimed that all surveys, even BJP’s own surveys, are showing that the mandate is slipping out of its hands. “The Prime Minister has spoken in a way that has brought bad name to our country. He did not speak of the work done by his govt. He has realised that he has lost the mandate. Over the past two months, he has tried to polarise people in the name of religion. He thinks this will bring votes to his party. However, people are fed up. People want the work to be done. In Solapur, farmers and common people are distressed. They are fed up with the PM’s speeches that divide people. People have realised that there is a need for change,” she said.
