Emergency services attended scene of a car fire near the Prince of Wales bridge on Tuesday afternoon (March 19). It happened on the eastbound carriageway between junction 24 Coldra and junction 23A Magor Services.
Traffic Wales said: “Emergency services en route. Traffic officers at scene.” By 3.49pm, traffic monitoring service Inrix reported that all lanes had been reopened and traffic had returned to normal.
It was the second incident in the area after an accident caused delays on the eastbound side of the bridge on Tuesday morning. Traffic cameras showed major delays in the area just after junction 23 Magor on the eastbound approach to the bridge during the morning rush hour. Debris on the carriageway was removed and all lanes reopened just after 8am. Traffic had returned to normal for the time of day by 8.30am.
A driver also died in an accident on the motorway in Carmarthenshire that closed part of the M4 in Carmarthenshire for more than 15 hours. The affected section was between junction 49 Pont Abraham and junction 48 Hendy, Llanelli. You can see live updates on that incident here.

Prince has now re-opened
All lanes have now re-opened on the Prince of Wales bridge and the debris has been removed.
Congestion remains in the area eastbound on the approach to the bridge.
