After 32 years of selling Hyundai vehicles, All Electric Garages Group has embarked on a new chapter and its Enville Street showroom has become a dedicated dealership for the popular BYD (Build Your Dreams) brand.

BYD, a major Chinese manufacturer of electric vehicles (EVs), has experienced a surge in popularity in the UK and globally.

The new BYD showroom, opposite the old Royal British Legion in Stourbridge, was launched on July 1 after All Electric Garages Group announced it would no longer be selling new Hyundai vehicles or be authorised to carry out Hyundai warranty work and prepaid service plans.

Jason Pickerill, managing director at All Electric Garages Group, said in a statement the decision “was not made by us” but by Hyundai Motor Company as part of a restructure of its network with a ‘fewer, bigger, better’ strategy – which saw the company select just one partner to represent it in the Birmingham area.

He said: “Unfortunately, due to the size of our business, we were not selected by the company, despite our hard work and greatest efforts. We were also informed that Stourbridge is no longer recognised as a designated market area, despite opening this location just over two-and-a-half years ago under their instruction.

“We requested to retain authorised Hyundai aftersales support until May 2026, but this was declined.”

He said the news came as a surprise and disappointment to the dealership and customers and added: “The Hyundai franchise has been an important part of our journey, and we are deeply proud of the trust and relationships we’ve built with so many of you through this brand.”

However, he said it was the start of an “exciting” new chapter to be selling “one of the world’s most innovative and fast-growing automotive brands, leading the charge in electric and Hybrid vehicle technology and sustainable mobility”.

He added: “We believe BYD represents an exciting future, and we are thrilled to bring this dynamic line-up to our community.”

He said the dealership would continue to service Hyundai vehicles (outside of Hyundai warranty or prepaid servicing) and the garage can still service Hyundai vehicles still under warranty (just not complete warranty claims). Warranty work and prepaid servicing will be redirected to All Electric’s Kidderminster site which will continue to sell Hyundai vehicles in the short term – although this will switch to BYD later this year.

The Stourbridge dealership may be able to assist with small, minor issues within warranty as a gesture of goodwill, Mr Pickerill added, as he urged people to pay a visit to the new look showroom to see “what the future of motoring looks like”.

All Electric Garages in Kidderminster will launch a BYD showroom next to its existing Hyundai showroom on August 1.

Mr Pickerill added: “We’re excited to be chosen as the BYD partner for Stourbridge and Kidderminster as there are only 35 partners in the UK. It’s a big coup for us to get the franchise in both locations. Stourbridge is now operational and we’re going to run BYD in Kidderminster from August 1 next to our existing Hyundai dealership.

“BYD have five EV models and one hybrid and over the next 12 months there’ll be five more hybrid cars coming and they’re very competitively priced and the build quality is extremely good. There’s an eight-year warranty on the battery and a six-year/100,000-mile vehicle warranty.”

He said the feedback from customers and local residents about the changes had been “heart-warming” and he added: “A lot of people have said they’ll continue to support us and bring their vehicle in for MOTs and repairs etc but they’ll also look at our BYD products.

“BYD started out as a tech company manufacturing batteries and they’ve got some really exciting products coming which I think will benefit our customers and our business.”

In addition to being the official BYD seller in Stourbridge and Kidderminster, he said All Electric will be “looking at other market opportunities” with the Chinese car company which has other brands in its portfolio and he added: “We’re just talking to them about that.”

BYD and Hyundai have been contacted for further comment.
