A Subaru ‘rally car’ has been involved in a crash on the A342 today (Sunday).

Emergency services were called to the busy A-road in St Edith’s Marsh, near Devizes, at around 4pm following the two-vehicle road traffic collision.

It involved a dark-coloured Subaru – branded with ‘Subaru World Rally Team’ stickers on the sides and rear – and a white Toyota Yaris on a bend near the entrance to Silverwood School.

Firefighters, supported by ambulance crews, worked to extricate the driver of the Subaru for approximately one hour – using hydraulic cutting equipment and tools.

The driver, believed to be a man, was eventually rescued from the car and taken into an ambulance for further treatment. He’s not believed to have sustained significant injuries.

It’s understood the driver of the Yaris, a woman, didn’t sustained any injuries.

Two critical care medics from Wiltshire Air Ambulance were on scene, with the helicopter touching down just metres away in a nearby field.

However, they left the incident around 40 minutes after arriving – having reportedly deemed the casualty did not to require urgent care.

The road remains closed in both directions between Rowde and St Edith’s Marsh (outside Haveli Indian Restaurant). It’s expected to reopen later this evening following recovery work.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
