Three boys, aged 16 and 17, remain in police custody after the incident on Monday night
Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of theft after a police pursuit. The three boys, aged 16 and 17, were arrested in Gosforth; despite the dangerous driving first being reported in the Goathland Avenue area of Longbenton.
An eyewitness reported two police cars colliding on Church Road, and the alleged stolen vehicle crashing into traffic lights at the junction of Church Road and Alwinton Terrace. Police cars were seen being taken away from Church Road in Gosforth on recovery trucks following the incident.
Church Road was closed between Gosforth High Street and South Gosforth for at least two hours as the cars were recovered. The teenagers remain in police custody.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 9pm yesterday we were alerted to a vehicle being driven in a dangerous manner in the Goathland Avenue area of Longbenton. Officers were deployed to the scene and the vehicle was stopped a short time later.
“Three boys – aged 16 and 17 – were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. They remain in police custody at this time.
