The Generation Speed 2025 Festival was indeed a great playground for automotive enthusiasts as we saw a great collection of vehicles that were not only unicorns, but were also very well maintained. 

In the high-octane world of Japanese Domestic Market legends, these cars have a legacy of innovation, raw performance, and a following like cult. Here’s a list of Top 5 JDM cars that we loved at Generation Speed 2025:

1) Subaru Impreza WRX STI Hatchback

This one is a real unicorn, which is only 1 in India. From a really vast collection of cars which belongs to Joey Postel. Under the hood, this unicorn packs a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol boxer engine that cranks out 305 PS and 393 Nm of torque.

Mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and coupled with Subaru’s famed all-wheel-drive system, you have got a car that’s as ready for the track as it is for any twisties or the rallies, which it is indeed engineered for!

2) It’s A… It’s A… It’s A SUPRAAAA…..

Well, I couldn’t stop myself from screaming it when I saw it for the first time. This one needs no introduction and is a real cult-classic with massive amount of fan following!

A symbol of Japanese engineering excellence, the Toyota Supra is powered by the legendary 2JZ-GTE engine, a 3-litre twin-turbo inline-6 capable of producing over 320 PS. 

Its sleek, aerodynamic design and performance-tuned chassis turned street racing into a cult. 

3) Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X 

This Evo X is a bit familiar family figure for us, since it is a part of the Powerdrift collection and is a part of Rohan Albal’s garage.

Under the hood is an inline-4, 2-litre turbo petrol that in it’s stock form churns out around 280 PS, paired with an all-wheel-drive system, but this one pushes out over 400+ PS of power in the modded form. Albeit a unicorn?

4) Toyota Sera

Now this is another not so known unicorn in the Indian automotive scene. The name Sera, in french means, “To Be”. Quite a literal nod to the future. 

The Toyota Sera, a 2-door roadster was introduced globally in 1990. It stood out with its unique glass-canopy and the butterfly doors. Powered by a modest 1.5-litre inline 4 naturally aspirated petrol engine, it churned out about 104 PS and 132 Nm of torque. There are only a handful of them surviving in India.

Trivia: Did you know, Gordon Murray cited the Toyota Sera’s butterfly doors as the inspiration for McLaren F1’s door design?

5) The Godzilla: Nissan GT-R

Another car which needs no introduction. The Nissan GT-R is a celebrated supercar and is known to punch above its weight, thanks to the performance and the engineering marvel it is.

Equipped with a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 engine that produces close to 480 PS, this JDM beast is all about raw acceleration. It can do nought to 100 under merely 3 seconds. A fun fact is, none of the GT-Rs pictured here are stock. All of them produces close to 800 PS of power or above.

BONUS: Mazda Miata a.k.a. Mazda MX-5

Those pop-up headlights make it one of the most recognizable JDM cars. Introduced in 1989, the Mazda Miata quickly won hearts as a lightweight, two-door roadster in the USA.

This particular model is a 1995 Mazda Roadstar, the convertible version of the iconic MX-5. Driving it around, Generation Speed sends you back to the golden era of motoring, evoking the thrill and nostalgia of those unforgettable old times.
