Origis Energy has announced the successful closing of $118 million in tax equity financing from RBC Community Investments to support the development of its Chalan Solar + Storage project in Kern County. This financing marks a significant milestone for the project, which is part of Origis Energy’s expanding portfolio of large-scale clean energy assets across the United States.
Origis Energy is currently building the hybrid facility and will own and operate it once completed. The project consists of a 65 MWac solar installation paired with a 25 MW / 100 MWh battery energy storage system. Commercial operations are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. The energy produced will be delivered under a 20-year power purchase agreement with Pioneer Community Energy, a not-for-profit community electricity provider based in Rocklin and serving customers in Placer and El Dorado counties.
Alice Heathcote, Chief Financial Officer at Origis Energy, said the partnership with RBC reflects the company’s continued ability to deliver high-quality renewable energy projects. She noted that the financing will help bring reliable and affordable clean power to Pioneer Community Energy’s customers and emphasized that the transaction highlights the strength of Origis Energy’s development and financing capabilities as the company expands its clean energy footprint.
Jonathan Cheng, Managing Director and Head of Renewable Energy Tax Equity Investments at RBC, stated that the investment demonstrates RBC’s ongoing commitment to supporting the clean energy transition. He expressed enthusiasm for partnering with Origis Energy on the Chalan project and indicated interest in working together on additional projects in the future.
The Chalan Solar + Storage project adds to the growing number of hybrid solar-plus-storage facilities being built across the United States. These projects enhance grid reliability by generating clean electricity during the day and storing excess energy for use during evening hours or peak demand periods. Through long-term contracting and strong financial backing, projects like Chalan contribute to expanding clean energy access while supporting the resilience and stability of regional power systems.
