Man in custody after firing shots at Southwest Side home

A man is in custody after police said he was firing shots Monday morning out of a home on the Southwest Side.

The man’s family called 911 to report that he was firing shots inside their house at about 10:30 a.m. in the 100 block of Ebbtide Drive, said Sgt. Washington Moscoso, a police spokesman.

When officers arrived, the man, 36, was firing shots through a window from inside the home, Moscoso said.

Officers were able to evacuate the man’s family safely, Moscoso said.

Police then surrounded the home and were preparing to contact him when he walked out of the house and surrendered peacefully.

Moscoso said the man had a laceration because he injured himself at some point.

He is being treated at an area hospital, and no one was injured in the shooting, police said.

The man, who was not immediately identified, will face a charge of deadly conduct, Moscoso said.

Moscoso said police have had prior contact with the man, but he could not go into detail.

Police said they are in the early stage of their investigation and did not immediately know what sparked the incident. | @JBfromSA
