Asia Markets

Asian markets started the week on a cautious note, with most indices trading lower as April 2 tariff deadline set by US President Donald Trump approaching closer. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 saw a decline of 0.37%, while South Korea’s Kospi and Kosdaq slipped 0.36% and 0.05%, respectively. Meanwhile, Japan bucked the trend, with the Nikkei 225 inching up by 0.28% and the broader Topix index adding 0.13% in early trade.

US markets

US stock markets ended higher on Friday after a volatile session, as investors reacted to President Donald Trump’s comments on tariffs. While he stuck to the April 2 deadline for reciprocal tariffs, he hinted at some flexibility, helping stocks recover from early losses. The S&P 500 edged up 0.08% to 5,667.56, snapping a four-week losing streak caused by trade worries and recession fears. The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.52% to close at 17,784.05, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 32.03 points, settling at 41,985.35.

US GDP Growth data on March 27

The US will release its GDP growth rate for Q4 on March 27. This report will show how the economy performed in the last quarter, especially after recent policy moves by the US Federal Reserve. In addition to this, investors will also watch for any new announcements on trade tariffs.

Ukraine ceasefire talks

A high-level US delegation is set to meet Russian officials on Monday to discuss a possible ceasefire in the Black Sea and broader steps to end the ongoing war in Ukraine. According to a Reuters report, these talks come just after US diplomats engaged with Ukrainian representatives on Sunday.

US dollar

The US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the dollar’s value against a basket of six foreign currencies, was at 104.03 on Monday morning. The index evaluates the strength or weakness of the US dollar in comparison to major currencies. The basket contains currencies such as the British Pound, Euro, Swedish Krona, Japanese Yen, Swiss Franc, etc. The rupee settled at 85.98 against the US dollar on March 21.

FII, DII data

On March 21, foreign investors bought shares worth Rs 7,470 crore, while domestic investors sold shares worth Rs 3,202 crore.

Gold rate today

According to Goodreturns, gold prices on March 24 remained steady, with 24 carat gold priced at Rs 89,770 per 10 grams, while 22 carat gold rate today stood at Rs 82,290 per 10 grams. Meanwhile, 18 carat gold was available at Rs 67,330 per 10 grams.

Crude oil

Crude oil prices edged lower on Monday (March 24), with WTI crude slipping 0.09% to $68.22 per barrel, while Brent crude dipped 0.14% to $72.06 per barrel.

Corporate action update

Several stocks, including TVS Motor, Samvardhana Motherson, REC, and Mishra Dhatu Nigam Ltd, will trade ex-dividend starting Monday, March 24.
