Mortgage Solutions has caught up with some of last year’s British Mortgage Awards winners to discuss life after being acknowledged for their work.
This time, we are speaking with Bobbie Carter, senior case manager and office manager at L&C Mortgages, who won the Broker Administrator category.
What has changed for you, career-wise, since winning a BMA last year?
I have still carried on with my role as senior case manager at L&C Mortgages and love it. I have been given more opportunities within my role, being trusted with more responsibility, as I was offered an office manager role for one of our offices. This includes taking care of the office, liaising with the management company for the building and making sure everything runs smoothly.
Do you think winning has aided your career? In what ways?
I do think it has in some ways. It’s allowed me to be given more responsibility within my company, as I have been recognised for being someone who is able to take it on, be trusted and make sure the work is completed to a good standard.

How did you feel about winning?
It was absolutely amazing. I couldn’t believe it and still can’t. It really made me feel seen and that everything I do within my role is appreciated. It was honestly an amazing experience to be a part of and such an honour to be put forward by L&C for the award.
As a past award winner, do you feel like this recognition encourages professionals to push boundaries in their fields?
I really do; winning the award makes you feel more seen and really does give you that boost personally and within your career to push and aim for more. You are recognised every day in your company, but to be recognised outside of your company by people you don’t normally come across is a massive boost.
What opportunities do you think future winners can gain through being recognised at the BMAs and what opportunities have you gained?
I think it can really help your career grow through being recognised, even if this isn’t a promotion, etc, but gives you that extra confident boost to step outside your comfort zone at work and strive for more. It can also lead to being given more opportunities or responsibility within your role, because people will see you as being the one who can do it and also do it well.
How easy was the nomination process?
I found it really quite straightforward; the voting process, the cover letter and the interview. I was made to feel very comfortable when I had my interview, which made it a lot easier, and I felt like I could really be myself. I also had an amazing support group with me at L&C who helped me every step of the way, which was really important.
