The Caithness Music Festival will be celebrating its platinum anniversary next week as it brings together children and adults from across the far north to take part in a five-day celebration of music, speech and drama.
To mark this 70-year milestone, the festival team has created a new logo and developed a new set of certificates. There will now be dedicated certificates for first, second and third places, along with newly designed certificates for all those taking part.
The festival will open on Monday morning with choral speaking as well as solo and group singing performances. In a new addition there will also be drumming classes.
As well as both morning and afternoon sessions every day from Monday to Friday there is a number of adult entries, enabling evening sessions on Tuesday and Friday.
The festival will be rounded off with a concert on the evening of Monday, June 15. All sessions will be held at the Assembly Rooms in Wick.
The Caithness Music Festival is run by a team of volunteers from across the county. It is also supported by a network of “festival friends” – volunteers whose work in compering, supporting adjudicators and selling tickets is essential in keeping the festival running.
Last year’s event again involved around 2500 competitors across all classes.
Convener Marjory Richard said at the time she was “blown away” by the quality of some of the performances.
“It was an absolutely amazing week,” Mrs Richard said. “I can’t believe how much talent we’ve got here.”
